Milan-based singer-songwriter Quarry has dropped the politically charged new single, ‘New City Comes Along’. The punky cut is a fierce anti-war song that shines a light on those whose lives are destroyed by war. He says: “A city devastated by bombing and reduced to rubble is one of the most heartbreaking things to see. How many stories are behind those bodies scattered along the streets, those destroyed buildings that were once warm houses to families. I wrote this song thinking of a beautiful city like Kyiv falling into ruin, but it could be any city destroyed by warfare. New cities will, eventually, come along through the skin of the razed ones.” Musically, it’s a jagged, textured track that makes use of an almost industrial timbre. Powerful cymbal hits and grating guitar work wander into distortion; a reflection of the destruction discussed in his lyrics. His voice is both melodic and passionate, with an angry-yet-uplifting edge. The new album from Quarry, Positioning The Sun, is out now. -Dan Peeke.
